This service includes a fitness consultation and program designed specifically for different individuals based on their unique fitness needs. Personal training can be done on a one-on-one basis or in small group training sessions. We pride ourselves on the certifications and education of all our staff.
Whether you're looking for a new training program to follow, or need continued monitoring, the staff at UW Fitness can help you reach your fitness goals.
UW Fitness offers small group personal training sessions for UW faculty and staff (no students in these sessions). These 6-8 week sessions include both cardiovascular exercise and resistance training. Small group personal training sessions are scheduled twice a week at specific times throughout the day (over lunch and after work) pending UW Fitness availability. So if you like the idea of exercising in a small group environment right on campus under the guidance of a certified personal trainer, consider this option. Exercising in a small group still offers the benefit of supervision and instruction, yet at a lower cost than one-on-one training.
Small group personal training sessions are limited and are based on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are interested in signing up for one of these sessions, please download and fill out the appropriate forms and send them to UW Fitness. Please read the detailed sign up instructions available here. You will need to complete a PAR-Q or PARmed-X form, an Information and Consent Form, and a Client Information for Group Personal Training form.

What some of the staff/faculty are saying about the small group personal training sessions offered by UW Fitness....
"The trainers provide great personalized support to each participant. I'm now learning how to exercise properly, and feel much more fit than I did before I started the program. I'd recommend it to anyone without hesitation." ~Barbara Bulman-Fleming
"I have found muscles that I didn't know I had and an atmosphere filled with encouragement, enthusiasm, energy, expertise and enlightenment. Wow that is a lot of e's which helps easing into the program. My goal is to take what I have learned and continue my fitness program at the U of W gym on Columbia." ~Marg Dupuis
"I currently belong to a gym. The reason I joined the Staff Fitness was to learn how to exercise from an expert in the field. I have learned about my target heart rate, the importance of warming up and cooling down and stretching as well as how to use weights properly. Many of the exercises can be done at home too; not just in a gym!" ~Marg Feeney
"I've participated in the small group personal training sessions since 2003.
The staff are encouraging to each participant, which I find highly motivating and it's FUN! You can't beat the convenience of working on your own personal fitness goals with qualified trainers on campus who tailor the program to your individual needs and abilities, plus there's no need to run off to a gym at lunch or after work. While some may view the cost as prohibitive, I think of it as an investment in my own personal health. My kids are benefiting too because they join in at home with the simple exercises using a few free weights, a mat and a ball. What are you waiting for - come and join us!" ~Sandy DeVisser
